inspiration board :: colors + themes

Design is a passion of mine. Unfortunately I've never quite had the space (or funds) for ALL of the things I'd love to do with a house, but I do try to incorporate them when and where I can. So creating "vision boards" help me to utilize space more efficiently, so that I'm adding the right touches of decor. I am definitely more of a minimalist at heart. BIG open windows, bright rooms, light rustic wood and EVERYTHING WHITE are my idea of the perfect home. ohh, someday...but for now it's cookie-cutter apartment digs-- which we all know, you don't really get to customize features with those... Sometimes the lighting is poor, sometimes it's lack of well-used wall space; there are a variety of different hurdles that you can encounter. So I like to revisit+reassess regularly: revisit photos. reassess my space.

You can follow me on Pinterest where I have my "DECOR + ORGANIZATION" board created, which I regularly switch up with photos of home decorating inspiration. I wanted to showcase some of my current loves here on the BLOG however because I don't know about you, but my ADHD runs rampant on Pinterest sometimes. A simple search for "coffee tables" can morph into me perusing "DIY baby shower ideas" for an hour in 60 seconds flat...and I thought that this could limit the distractions;)

I regularly vacillate between crisp black + whites vs. soft creamy neutrals. I think I lean more toward a blend of the two looks throughout the home by sticking to the bolder theme for something like the guest bathroom or living room (somewhere it'll get the attention it deserves) and sticking with soft neutrals in every other room. Besides...I think bedrooms are best left ZEN. Nothing makes me happier than my bedroom feeling like I'm being enveloped in one huge cloud. So whites it is... For a living room, however, I am 1000% obsessed with this look below:

It's the perfect statement piece, painting the mantel wall in a charcoal grey and adding a simple pop of color. And it totally pleases the minimalist in me. I also think that a neatly arranged collage of black + white photos, with a few bright candles or vases along the mantle top would be a cool look also.

Or I could finally add the faux wood paneling that I've been wanting since forever along the same wall...which would keep a softer, cozier look.

The bathroom ideas I love are a more focused on dark flooring or dark cabinets and trimming. I wouldn't want to necessarily paint an entire wall dark because it's important to still get good lighting while getting ready. Going back to the living room again, the chunky bookcase would be a good in-between if I decide to not be ballsy with paints at all, since it gives a sort of "medieval drama" to the look of a room. And I could tap into my ecclectic, hipster side and go thrift store hunting for mismatched knickknacks to display....I'd almost feel forced to buy a record player with a piece like that, lol.

Kitchens have to be white! I want the cooking/baking/eating area to be SO sterile-looking that you feel inclined to scrub down before touching anything....ok, maybe not quite that extreme, but I'd like it to feel bright and open. Maybe I'm just not a good multi-tasker, but too many colors in a kitchen feel chaotic to me, and if you have any hope of dinner not burning to a crisp then you need to limit my distraction.

Of course....if someone wants to supply me with a home like thiiiis then you won't hear me complain about a damn thing! haha. Distract away!
...'cuz I'll be too busy decorating every room to cook anyway ;)

Are there any sources of inspiration that you guys have? Share them with me below or add me on Pinterest so that I can browse what your style is too. I can always use more vision boards!!
